Paul H. Wittman

d. April 18, 2015

Visitation for Paul H. Wittman, 75, will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 415 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich.  A private family interment will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2015.

Paul passed away on Saturday morning (April 18, 2015) following a brief battle with brain cancer that was diagnosed in December 2014.

Paul Henry Wittman was born on December 3, 1939 in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Clement Thomas (Ted) and Bessie Anna (Bess) Wittman (Whitmer).  He was married to Margaret Alice (Mimi) Krischke for 48 years.  She preceded him in death on September 14, 2011.

He is survived by his three sons and six grandchildren: Scott (Dana) Wittman and their children Lauren, Ryland and Grace, Lake Bluff, IL; Andy (Michele) Wittman and their children Matthew, Megan and Mason, Bloomington, IL; and Todd Wittman (Charleston, SC).  Paul is preceded in death by his daughter, Maria Lynn.

Born in Iowa, Paul spent most of his early life as a Chicago resident. He graduated from Senn High School in Chicago.  Paul completed undergraduate and graduate studies at Northwestern University, with degrees in electrical engineering and biomedical engineering.  He also received a Masters in Business Administration from Loyola University of Chicago.  Paul raised his family in Chicago and Arlington Heights, IL and later moved to Hawthorn Woods, IL with his wife.  Paul then moved to retirement communities in Mundelein, IL and Shorewood, IL.

With a knack for problem solving, he spent 25 years in a job he loved at Hewlett-Packard and continued consulting in computer programming through his retirement.  Through December of 2014, he continued writing computer code and helping his grandchildren and friends’ children with their physics and calculus homework.

Paul loved spending time with Mimi, his children and grandchildren.  He cherished a life of travel and adventure with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends, visiting 47 of the 50 states and numerous countries throughout the world.

Paul talked to everybody and never met a stranger.  Anybody who talked to Paul for more than a few minutes knew him: he was a jovial, positive and sincere man with a big heart.  Those of us who were close to Paul consider ourselves blessed and we will miss him dearly.

Memorials, in memory of Paul, may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1114 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60004.
