Philip “Phil” Edward Urban Sr. will be laid to rest next to his wife, Gloria at St Adalbert Cemetery, 6800 N Milwaukee Ave. Niles, IL at 10:00 am Friday, October 29, 2021. There will be a family gathering afterwards from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the VFW, 51 Lions Dr. Lake Zurich, Il 60047.
Phil passed away Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Cedar Lakes Assisted Living & Memory Care, Lake Zurich, IL. He was born on March 2, 1928 in Chicago, IL. He was the eldest son of Felix Maximillian Urban and Bernice Marie Urban, fondly known by the family as Poppie and Gangie.
As a child, Philip Urban Sr. enjoyed the Boy Scouts and being an altar boy. After he graduated from high school, at 17-years-old, he joined the Air Force/Army. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan as a supply sergeant with the 1st Air Division, 623rd AC & W SQDN.
During a hospital stay in New York City, Philip met the love of his life, Gloria Ann Miletich. They were married in New York City on October 22nd, 1949. Phil and Gloria then moved to Chicago, IL. They lived the remainder of their lives in the Chicago area, notably spending many years in Palatine, IL. Phil and Gloria celebrated 69 years of marriage until Gloria’s passing on June 11, 2018. During their marriage, they welcomed the birth of six children, Philip Edward, Pamela Denise, Priscilla Ann, Pauline Marie, Marty Perry and Bryan Paul.
As a young man, Phil started his own dry-cleaning business which he owned and ran until 1962. He eventually became a US Postman in Arlington Heights, IL and held that position until his retirement. After his retirement, Phil and his wife, Gloria, enjoyed traveling America in their RV for many years.
Phil was first and foremost a family man. In addition to his own wife and children, he doted on his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a people person and loved talking to many. Outside of his family, Philip’s interests centered around the church and the military. He was a devoted Catholic and lived his life humbly in dedication to our Lord, Jesus. For many years, Phil and Gloria regularly attended St. Theresa Catholic Church in Palatine, IL. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He owned military vehicles and until recently, Philip and his family would volunteer to drive the vehicles in parades in the Chicago and Milwaukee areas.
He is survived by five of his children Philip, Pam, Priscilla, Pauline, and Bryan, 15 grandchildren Carrie, Philip, Jeffery, James, Tracy, Pauline, Tiffany, Mark, Paul, Kyle, Krystal, Amie, Dakotah, Sarah, and Lydiah and 22 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his mother Bernice, father Felix, wife Gloria, brother Richard, son Marty and granddaughter Angeline.
