Visitation for Raymond J. Berens, 80, of Palatine will be held from 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy., Palatine. The family will have a funeral Mass for those who would like to attend at 10:00 am on Monday, January 8, 2024, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 455 N. Benton Street, Palatine.
Ray was born on October 13, 1943, in Chicago, to the late Herman and Regina Berens and passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023. As an Illinois Hockey Hall of Fame inductee, Ray was dedicated to helping youth across Illinois not only learn how to play the game but impart life skills including teamwork and how to strive for excellence.
Ray was the loving father of Rick Berens, Kendra Von Esh and Sean Berens; grandfather of Quentin Bicknase and Mitchell Berens; loving partner to Karen Geiger and father figure to her son Sean Geiger. Ray was the last living member of his family, the youngest of 8 children.
