Visitation for Richard Allen “MAC” McCoy, 77, of Palatine, will be held Sunday, December 11, 2016 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine. The visitation will continue Monday, December 12, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2515 Palatine Road, Inverness, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Prayer Service at 10:15 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be said at 10:30 a.m. A private family Inurnment will be held in the spring of 2017 at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Illinois.
Richard passed away December 8, 2016 at JourneyCare Pepper Family Hospice Center of Barrington. He was born October 01, 1939, in Chicago, IL to Rollin & Margaret McCoy and married Patricia Rooney on October 02, 1965 at St. Veronica in Chicago.
Richard attended Leyden High School, Washburne Trade School (HVAC) and Harper College. He was a Sheet Metal Journeyman, Local 73, for 39 years in the HVAC Industry.
He was a U. S. Navy veteran serving as an Aviation Metal Smith, Flight Engineer for 4 years of active service
Richard, along with his wife, Pat, formed the Yellow Ribbon Support Group and they worked out of the Village of Palatine for over 10 years, sending more than 28,000+ boxes to the troops overseas with the help and support of over 40 dedicated volunteers.
Longtime member of Holy Family Community Parish, Inverness, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 11981 of Holy Family Parish. Mac was a 4th Degree Knight and received the Michael J. McGivney Award, the highest honor bestowed upon a Knight of Columbus.
Mac was a member of the Local 73 Veterans Committee which supports various charitable organizations and he was the numbers caller at the annual BINGO held at Hines Veteran’s Hospital.
Mac survived Cancer for almost 23 years with a positive attitude and deep faith in God.
Survived by his wife, Patricia (nee, Rooney); sons, Rick (Yanneth); Timothy (Kristi); grandchildren, Alex Smith, Aidan McCoy, Shawna McCoy and Melissa McCoy; siblings: Rollin McCoy (Janice), Marilyn Sokal and Robert McCoy (Rosann); many devoted nephews and nieces. Many exceptional friends who helped him survive chemo, radiation, etc. throughout almost 23 years of cancer.
