Robert E. Horn, Sr.

Visitation for Robert E. Horn, Sr. 94, of Inverness, will be on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 9:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 10:30 AM at St Mark's Episcopal Church, 337 Ridge Rd, Barrington, IL. The Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin.

Robert (Bob) E. Horn, Sr. born May 12, 1930, to Alfred C and Lillian (Graf) Horn in New Haven CT. He passed away on October 7, 2024.

After graduating high school, Bob attend University of Connecticut, but that time was interrupted when he joined the Navy and served from 1951-1954 during the Korean War. He was a storekeeper on the Reedbird AMS 51, a coastal mine sweeper stationed in Charleston, SC. After the Navy Bob went to work in the electrical industry and worked for the Wiremold Company based in Hartford, CT for 33 years before he retired in 1997.

Bob was able to return to college at night and received his Associate’s degree in Marketing in 1978. Bob was also dedicated to the Boy Scouts of America. He volunteered with them for over 38 years and received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest volunteer award in Scouting.

Bob collected stamps and enjoyed woodworking. Bob also enjoyed traveling. He visited 49 states during his lifetime, with his favorite adventures being a cruise in Alaska and a riverboat trip down the Mississippi.

Bob was preceded in death by his sweetheart of 71 years, Shirley. Bob was blessed with 5 wonderful children, son Bob (Lindy Davies) Horn, daughter Evelyn (Bob) Wilson, daughter Karen (Greg) Zambelli, son Richard (Lisa) Horn and daughter Alexis (Mike) Seisser. He was also blessed with 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
