Robert L. Tinkham

A Memorial Visitation for Robert Lawrence Tinkham, 74, of Lake Zurich will be from 9:00 AM until the time of the Memorial Service, 11:30 AM on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 415 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich.

Robert was born on November 5, 1942 in Boston, MA to the late Robert Linwood and Barbara (nee Horton) Tinkham and passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2017.

After graduating from Boston University in 1964, Bob worked in the insurance industry his entire career.  His last employer was Zurich American Insurance Company where he worked for 37 years as an Underwriting Manager for National Accounts.  He retired at the age of 70 and he and Mary were able to take a couple of road trips to Savannah, GA in 2013 and Charleston, SC in 2014 before his COPD illness forced him to be home-bound most of the time.  Bob also was an avid fisherman and looked forward every year going to Nungesser Lake in Ontario, Canada for opening week with all his fishing buddies.  He loved spending time at the family cabin in Tenants Harbor, Maine where he went every summer as a child and that continued right up until he could no longer make the trip.  His children and grandchildren will certainly carry on that tradition.  His biggest love, however, was his family, and he had a special love for his two grandchildren who were the light of his life.  The best name anyone every called him was “Papa”.

Robert is survived by his wife, Mary E. Tinkham, whom he married on June 16, 1974.  He is also survived by his sons, Robert Tinkham, Peter (fiancee Paige Barr) Tinkham, John (Nikki) Tinkham; grandchildren, Audrey & Colin Tinkham; brother, Paul (Debbie) Tinkham, his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
