Robert W. Russell

Funeral Services for Robert William Russell, 101, of Barrington, will be held privately.

Robert was born on April 7, 1923, to William and Ruby Russell. He passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at The Garlands in Barrington.

Bob was a graduate of North Central College. From there he served in the Air Force as a navigator in WWII in Italy. Upon returning home, he attended Northwestern Law School graduating in 1948. Later that year, he married Frances (nee Braught) Russell. He began his career as a trial lawyer at Chicago Northwest Railroad. He remained with the railroad until he retired in 1986 as senior vice president of administration.

Bob loved to travel; he enjoyed playing tennis, bridge, and had a deep love for learning. His family will remember him as someone who was always there for them, from his daughters’ ice-skating events to his sons’ tennis tournaments. He had a great sense of humor and was great in a crisis. He was incredibly generous to all of his family, providing them with countless experiences they will always treasure, and he will be deeply missed.

Bob was the beloved husband of the late Frances Russell of 59 years; loving father of Scott (Deborah) Russell, Gregory (Nancy) Russell, the late Barbara (Charles) Tyk, and Nancy Marie (Richard) Linden; cherished grandfather of 10, dear great-grandfather of 16.

In addition to his wife and daughter, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Taylor Eggert.
