Ronald E. Ternberg

The Visitation for Ronald Evert Ternberg, 85, of Palatine, will be held Saturday, October 9, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 4:00 p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine.  The Interment will be private.

Ronald was born June 12, 1936, and passed away on October 4, 2021, at his home.

Ronald was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Barbara Louise Gondek; loving father of Lori (Joe) Pfortmiller, the late Jeffrey (Victoria) Ternberg and Dirk (Mary Kate) Ternberg; loving grandfather of Lauren and Bryce Pfortmiller, Grace Ternberg and Haley, Mara and Emmett Ternberg; dear son of the late Evert Matias and Rose Frances (nee Hubacek) Ternberg; brother of Kenneth Ternberg.

Ron started as a brick layer with his dad from a very young age.  He, along with his dad, brother, Ken, uncles and friends built his family home.  He lived in that home for over 55 years and had the honor of his last wish being granted of peacefully dying there in his bed.  Once he had kids, he traded in his trowel; one of every three days, to fight fires in Elk Grove Village for almost two decades.  His hobbies included an incredible knack of photography, a passion for scuba diving and then combining them both together for some amazing underwater photographs.  His passion for scuba diving took him to exotic places including several Hawaiian Islands and an island in Micronesia called Truk Lagoon.  He had a wicked sweet tooth and was a great cook.  All who met him could see his sweet heart in his smile.  We will all miss him dearly.
