A Virtual Service for Rudolf (“Rudy”) Turner, 70, will be available at 11:00 am on June 9, 2020 via Ahlgrim Family Funeral home in Lake Zurich.
Rudy was born March 18, 1950 in Mafraq, Jordan to Allen and Helen Turner. He passed away at home unexpectedly and peacefully on June 3, 2020.
Rudy was a beloved husband to Ruth (nee Hartman) and father to Elena (Adam) Longman and Anna Turner and cherished grandfather of Turner and Ezra Longman; dear brother of Olga (Joe) Monaco and Zarema Turner; brother-in-law to Janet Bainbridge and James (Ginger) Hartman. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews, along with three great-nephews and a great-niece.
Rudy came to the United States with his family at the age of six, going on to attend Stevens Institute of Technology at 16. He remained in New Jersey until he took a job with Zenith Electronics and made his way to the Chicagoland area (where he would later meet Ruth). While employed at Zenith/LG for more than 40 years, he earned a number of patents in the field of electrical engineering, including some related to high-definition television (HDTV).
Rudy had a great love for the “silent sports”. No matter where he lived, he always made sure to enjoy the great outdoors, especially by hiking beautiful landscapes, kayaking on Long Lake, cross-country skiing, and riding his bike (he later developed a preference for recumbent bicycles). The children in his life especially loved his skills with LEGO-building, unique computer programs, and his willingness to walk to a playground at a moment’s notice.
Contributions in Rudy’s name may be made to the Ancient Oaks Foundation (ancientoaksfoundation.org) or Bookfriends International (bookfriends.org).
