Visitation for Shirley Ann Cadwell Horn, 92, of Inverness, will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 337 Ridge Road, Barrington Hills on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, from 9:30 AM until the time of Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. The Interment will take place at Lakewood Memorial Park in Elgin.
Shirley was born June 29, 1931, to Ernest Edwin Cadwell and Ann (Delaney) Cadwell in New Haven, CT. She passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023, at her home.
After graduating high school, Shirley attended the University of Connecticut, Yale Medical Center where she graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science degree with an RN.
Upon graduating, Shirley moved to Charleston, SC, to join her husband Bob who was station there in the Navy. After his service was up, they returned to Connecticut where Shirley continued her nursing at the New Haven Hospital. She also served for two years as the company nurse for United Elastic Company.
When the family moved to Ohio, Shirley worked as a Public Health Nurse traveling to three area schools. When she retired from nursing, Shirley worked for the Charles Levy Corp. setting up books and magazines in Wal-Mart and Target stores. She also was a food demonstrator at the local grocery stores.
Shirley enjoyed traveling, especially to Maine in the fall and Florida in the spring. She was an avid reader and excellent spider solitaire player.
She was very involved with Rainbow Girls where she volunteered with them during the time her daughters were active with organization. She received the Grand Cross of Color, in recognition for all her service.
Shirley was also very involved with her church, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, where she served as senior warden on the church board and on many other committees. She also was in charge of the church’s annual rummage sale.
Shirley is survived by her high school sweetheart of more than 70 years, Bob.
She was blessed with 5 wonderful children; son, Bob (Lindy Davies) Horn; daughter, Evelyn (Bob) Wilson; daughter, Karen (Greg) Zambelli; son, Richard (Lisa) Horn and daughter, Alexis (Mike) Seisser.
She had 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
