Spiros grew up in rural Greece with his parents, brother, two sisters and many uncles, aunts and cousins. He loved his farm in Danileika and the mountains of his childhood home in Roino, Greece. Spiros was a track and field athlete, as well as an excellent dancer. He always enjoyed retelling stories from his early life in Greece.

As a young man, Spiros served in the Greek military and thereafter started his entrepreneurial journey by opening a small market in Athens, Greece with his beloved cousin.

Spiros immigrated to the United States on July 28, 1967. Upon arrival he began to work in and learn about, the restaurant business. There he met his wife Susan, and they were married on February 16, 1969.

The couple worked hard and persevered to build a life for themselves and their growing family. He was a co-owner and chef at Evans Restaurant in Mt. Prospect for many years. Upon its sale, Spiros ventured to White Alps Restaurant in Lake Zurich, and then Wauconda, where he proudly served the area for over 30 years. He took great pride in serving quality food and loved his customers.

Upon his retirement, Spiros enjoyed traveling to and spending many months in his home in Meligalas, Greece. There he took care of his property and gardens, played cards with friends, and enjoyed the beautiful climate and seas of Greece with his family.

Spiros was preceded in death by his parents, George and Maria (née Bouzalas) Vlahopoulos; his sister, Kiriakoula Vigou; his brother, Nikos Vlahopoulos and his son, George S. Vlahopoulos.

Spiros was the loving husband of Susan (née Miedema); father of Maria (Ahmed), Andrew (Nicole) and the late George Vlahopoulos; Grandfather of Sofia, Olivia, Amelia, Spiro, Kassandra and Alexander; brother of Reveka Mourousias.
