Terry A. Salté

d. July 8, 2014

Terry Alan Salté of Hawthorn Woods passed peacefully to his Lord on July 8, 2014 surrounded by his family. Born in Chicago on February 12, 1946 of Norwegian immigrant parents, Terry spent his childhood in Chicago attending Amundsen High School and later graduating from the University of Illinois at Navy Pier with a degree in finance. He was a retired commercial lines vice president of Zurich American Insurance Company in Schaumburg and a nationally respected expert on catastrophic commercial property risks. Terry passionately loved his Lord Jesus and was an active and faithful member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Wauconda and a volunteer with Lake County PADS.

However, Terry’s greatest love was his family of whom he was fiercely proud.  Pulling a pop-up camper, he vacationed his family to forty-six of the forty-eight contiguous states during summer and holiday vacations. He relished holidays with his family and with entertaining friends at the home which he and his brother-in-law, Marc built—yes, actually, physically built. He was a staunch advocate of education, encouraging all his children to go to college in pursuit of their dreams. He was a kind, loyal and faithful friend to many and was deeply loved.

Terry leaves behind his wife, Charlene (nee Sonderman) and children Erica (Rob) Newman of Muscatine, IA, Christine (Keith) Katsma of Deerfield, Jonathan (Jodi) Salté of Jackson, WI, Katherine (Rob) Nunez of Gurnee, and Michael Salté of Hawthorn Woods, grandchildren Noah, Aiden, Kellan, Emma and Lily, and hosts of wonderful nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Karl and Theresa Salté, his stepmother, Kari Salté, and his in-laws, Norman and Lucille Sonderman for whom he was a much loved son.

Services will be held Saturday July 12, 2014, at eleven a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church 25225 W. Ivanhoe Road in Wauconda, IL.  Visitation will precede the service beginning at ten a.m.  A celebration of life luncheon will be held at the church after the services with all invited to stay.

To honor Terry’s love of higher education and provide hope to others impacted by traumatic brain injury, the family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Salté Scholarship for Excellence in Neuroscience at Carthage College in Kenosha, WI, to promote education in neuroscience and traumatic brain injury research.
