Trudy Rubino

Trudy Rubino (Kirchen), 88, of Buffalo Grove. A Celebration Of Life will be planned in the future.

She was born on September 7, 1933 in East St. Louis, IL to her parents, the late Charles and Clara Kirchen. Trudy passed away Saturday May 14, 2022, surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, the love of her life, Nick Rubino with whom she shared 67 beautiful years of marriage, as well as her children Marie, Rochelle (Jeff), Mike, Geri (Rick), Nick/Jake (Julie), and Patti (Mike) whom she loved dearly. Her grandchildren Lindsay (Merrick), Elizabeth (Dina), Amy, Jennifer, Annie, Dylan, AJ, Zoe, Nick, Kristy, Jake, Jessie, and Joe, whom could do no wrong in her eyes. She is also survived by her sister Lollie, who she had many treasured memories with.

She is preceded in death by her siblings Eddie, Michael, Leo, James, John, Paul, Veronica, Karen, Delores, Regina, and Theresa all who brought her many laughs and smiles through the years, as well as her granddaughter Morgan who she loved fiercely.

Trudy was a master of many talents and enjoyed many things in life. She loved to cook and garden and won many awards for her skilled baking through Buffalo Grove Days. Every holiday and occasion had a different dish her family and friends would look forward to enjoying from her kitchen. From froggies on Good Friday, to pies in the summer, to Italian Sausage for a family get together, to fresh baked bread for sandwiches, or Pastina for the grandkids, it all tasted the best coming out of Trudy’s kitchen. She loved to talk shop about how to grow a thriving garden or keep your house plants healthy. She found great joy sitting behind a sewing machine making many wedding gowns, first communion dresses, clothes for her children, and baptism gowns. She drew inspiration from pictures and made everything up as she went. She truly had a talent! She made cherished blankets for so many babies. Parents would anticipate them but the children who received them would keep them and sleep with them well past their college years. They were treasured by all. She found a special joy making her grandchildren yearly Christmas pajama sets, fondly called Grammy-pajammies. Trudy was a woman of many talents and was truly a master of all of them. She was a dedicated and hard-working woman who presented a reflection of her love and the abundance of care she put into everything she did.

Trudy brightened every room she walked into. With her kind spirit, joyful laugh and her love of a good time she was the easiest person to love. You would often find her with a glass of wine in her hand, making a joke and laughing. Her laugh was infectious and you would walk away with sore cheeks and great memories. She loved to host parties and have a full house. Every time you entered her home you could feel the overwhelming sense of love paired with that wonderful smile.

Trudy loved her family above everything else. She loved her extended family in a way that brought joy to all. Trudy was also happy to invite people into her family and make them honorary members. She had such a large heart with so much love and care to give people. She also had a wonderful way of keeping everyone in line while also making them feel loved and seen. Trudy had practiced and perfected both patience and kindness and was an exemplar of these virtues.

Trudy was also a woman of faith. She always sent you on your way with a guardian angel. She often could be overheard asking St. Anthony for help when she couldn’t find something! She would light a candle while saying a prayer whenever anyone needed it. She enjoyed traveling and visiting places that enriched her understanding of her faith such as the Vatican and the final living place of the Virgin Mary.

Trudy shared 67 years of a blissful marriage to the love of her life, Nick. Looking back on their years together, raising six children, building their dream home, traveling the world and more, their life together is one to be envied. Their love was undeniable and an inspiration to many. Holding hands and sharing kisses every single day, their love never faded. They were each other’s first and only love, and they were all they ever needed.

Trudy will be deeply missed by all that she loved and her phenomenal legacy will live on. She was something different to everyone but to everyone she was loved.
