Visitation for Vernon L. Bergman, 97, a lifelong resident of Palatine, will be on Sunday, July 12, 2015 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine.  The Visitation will continue Monday, July 13, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service, 10:00 a.m. also at the funeral home.  The Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Palatine.

Vernon was born March 31, 1918 in Elgin, IL to Daniel and Matilda Bergman.  He passed away Sunday, July 5, 2015 at his home.

Vernon was a United States Army Air Force veteran having served in World War II.  After his military service, he was a farmer in Palatine.  From there he started his own landscaping business which would later evolve into Bergman Trucking where he enjoyed running the CAT 922B endloader.  Vernon served his community as a volunteer Palatine Firefighter for 20 years.  In addition, he was a Palatine Township Highway Commissioner for 16 years, was president of the Cook County Highway Commissioners and he was a member of the Palatine American Legion.  In his leisure, Vernon would vacation in Florida.

Vernon is the husband of the late Marion Bergman.  He is survived by his sons, Dan (Gayle) Bergman and Thomas (Lisbeth) Bergman; grandchildren, Jennifer (Eric) Schwartz, Jessica Bergman, Daniel Bergman, Robert Bergman, Cari (Joel) Aves, Amanda Bergman, Katie Bergman and Thomas Bergman Jr., Kathryn Bergman, Karla Bergman, Derik Bergman and Shane Bergman; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Harold Bergman and 4 nieces.

In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by his infant son, John Henry Bergman, his son Robert Bergmanand and his sisters, Irene and Viola.
