A celebration of Vietta Cora Mickus’s life will be held at 11:00 Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Palatine Hills Golf Club.
Vietta was born April 23, 1920 in Palatine, Illinois to the late Gustav and Ella (nee Foreman) Bedurske, and she passed away peacefully with her daughter at her side Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Midwest Hospice in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Interment at Randhill Cemetery was private.
Vietta married Peter Mickus June 12, 1941 and made their home in Palatine where her family had settled in 1851. Peter passed away in 2001. Vietta was proud of her war efforts as” Rosie the Riveter” at Douglas Field. A homemaker, Vietta cared deeply for her family and longtime friends and was eager to help others in the community through Girl Scouts and Buehler YMCA. She enjoyed the friendship of the Golden Girls of PHS. She loved to travel.
She was the loving mother of Petrenelle (Thomas) Smith, proud grandmother of Michael (Bangorn) Smith of Alameda, CA and Carolyn Smith of Los Angeles, CA; adoring great- grandmother of Pamela, Anna and Ella Smith; fond aunt to Diane Jurgeto of Dyer, IN; and sister of the late William and Donald Bedurske.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Elgin Symphony Orchestra which she subscribed to for many years or the charity of your choice.
