August 10, 1927 — March 29, 2024

Palatine

Virginia Jernstrom, of Palatine, IL, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, March 29, 2024, with her children by her side. Born on August 10, 1927, to George and Elsie Eichhorst of Chicago, she was a cherished mother, grandmother, and sister. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness.

Virginia was the beloved mother of Christopher (Jacqueline) Jernstrom and Elise Jernstrom, and the dear grandmother of Kyle and Zachary Jernstrom. She was also sister to George (Patricia) Eichhorst. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Hans Jernstrom of Hilo, HI.

Virginia loved cooking, needlecrafts, word games, puzzles and was an avid reader. She found joy in shopping both locally and through her many catalogues. She was a small business owner with a candle shop in Northbrook, IL. Later she became a long-term member of the Science, Art and Industrial Arts departments at Glenbrook North High School. In retirement, she loved to collect beautiful things and traveling, with her favorite destination being Costa Rica. She had a lifelong love for her pets, wildlife, and was a long-time supporter of numerous charities for all living things. Virginia will be remembered for her warmth, spirited nature, generosity, and love for her family and friends. Her presence will be deeply missed by her caregivers, postman and all who knew her.

Services will be privately held to honor Virginia’s memory, and she will be laid to rest in Acacia Park Cemetery, Norridge, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the World Wildlife Fund.
