Visitation for Virginia L. Griffith, age 89, of McHenry, will be held from 10:00a.m. until the time of the Memorial Service, celebrating Ginny’s home going, Friday, October 30, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church of McHenry, 2614 N. Ringwood Rd, McHenry.
Ginny went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on October 23, 2020. She was born December 11, 1930 in Owosso, Michigan to LaVern and Hilda (Richards) Silverthorn. She married Kenneth Patterson in Chicago on April 25, 1952. The couple had one daughter, Lisa and after many happy years together, Kenneth died in March of 1977. Ginny was blessed to marry Robert Griffith in April of 1980.
They spent precious time together traveling the United States, visiting family and babysitting grandchildren. Ginny was an accomplished pianist and vocalist, singing for many years in the Meadows Baptist Church choir and a church trio with dear friends Norma Jacobsen and Dick Cooper as well as playing piano for children’s Sunday School. She loved her Savior and served Him faithfully. Ginny taught children’s Sunday School, frequently entertained visiting missionaries in her home, was active in VBS, Women’s Bible Studies, and helped organize Women’s Ministry events and Senior outings. She was a gifted seamstress and knitter and spent countless hours sewing clothing, costumes, and knitting afghans and baby clothes for her daughter and grandchildren. Above all, her favorite activity was spending time with family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest delight. She loved watching them perform in theater, concerts, recitals, and compete in various sporting events. She happily and frequently babysat great-grandchildren–even up to the week before her home going. She was Grandma to eight grandchildren and Great-Grandma to twelve.
Ginny will be deeply missed by daughter Lisa (Lowell) Kivley, her husband’s daughter Lori (Kevin) Cox; grandchildren, Erin (Josh) Timlick, Nathan (Rachel) Kivley, Jonathan (Shyann) Kivley, Sharon (Jonathan) Didier, Mark Kivley, Courtney Cox, Tanner Cox, and David Cappitelli; great-grandchildren, Anna, Caleb, Micah, and Eden Timlick; Emmalyn, Kaden, Savannah, and Moriah Kivley; Zaccai, Judea, and Israel Kivley; Luna Cappitelli and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth Patterson, her second husband, Robert Griffith, brothers Dale and Erwin Silverthorn and sister in laws, Francis and Elizabeth Silverthorn.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ginny’s memory to the Evangelical Free Church of McHenry.
