Walter Freund

Memorial Visitation for Walter Freund, 61 of Lake Zurich, formerly of Switzerland, will be held Sunday, August 29, 2021 from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 415 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich.  The Inurnment will be private.

Walter was born in Thurgau, Switzerland, and passed away, Saturday, August 21, 2021 at home in Lake Zurich.

Walter was the loving father of Rosemaree Robles, Patrick Freund, Bryan Freund, Marjorie Freund, and Mauricio Robles; loving grandfather of Kaylee Robles, Madison Robles, Bryce Robles and Robyn Robles; dear son of Walter and Christine (nee Titze) Freund; fond brother of Iris Streiff and Roger Freund.

Walter was an accomplished Chef, whose most recent employment at Kendall College allowed him to teach and watch other culinary enthusiasts grow in the field. With a very dry sense of humor, he was actually the funniest man around. In his youth, Walter was a part of the Swiss Royal Navy (if you know, you know😉), he enjoyed playing the trumpet, dancing to the Waltz, and mixing way too strong Margaritas for the neighborhood. One of his biggest passions was helping Camp One Step on their trips as the head chef. He was inspired by all of the participants and in awe of everything they accomplished. Walter was always the first to put others before himself. After traveling and cooking all over the world, he settled down and made his family home in Lake Zurich. Walter will forever be cherished and remembered for the wonderful contributions he made and for his lively spirit.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be appreciated to Ann and Robert Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, 225 E. Chicago Avenue, Chicago, IL 60611.
