Walter P Witek

Visitation for Walter P Witek, 89, long time resident of Lake Zurich, will be from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm with a Memorial Service, in celebration of Walter’s life, at 7:00 pm at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 415 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich on Tuesday, September 13, 2016.

Walter died July 22, 2016 at the Lake Zurich Lexington Healthcare Center.  During WWII, Walter proudly served in the Navy aboard the USS Mustin.  After the war he returned to Chicago and apprenticed as a butcher.  Until his retirement, Walter was the owner and proprietor of Wally’s Butcher Shop in Chicago.

Wally was an avid gardener and member of the ABS where he was earned several awards for his iron cross begonias.  Wally also enjoyed baking.  He loved making his famous cheesecakes for friends and neighbors.  Children and parents may remember him as the visiting Santa who came to see them during the holidays at Good Shepherd Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy and is survived by his sister, Doris; his daughter Pamela of Australia; his son Steven of Washington DC and grandchildren, Louis, Erica, and Katie.
