William E. “Bill” Laymon

Visitation for William E. “Bill” Laymon, 86, a resident of  Palatine since 1957, will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 from 3:00pm until 8:00pm at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy, Palatine.  A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 PM.  The Interment will be private.

Bill was born on July 6, 1930 in Casey, IL the son of the late David Owen and Lenora P. (nee Comer) Laymon and went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 19, 2016.

Bill was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during the Korean War.

One of Bill’s favorite things was working with Habitat for Humanity where he served as a contractor for the electrical installations in numerous homes in Aurora and Elgin.  He also served as resource person for “HOMES” Ministry from Willow Creek Community Church.  Bill also served on the Planning Board for the Village of Palatine for 15 years.  Prior to retiring in 1989 Bill was a vocational technical education teacher at Prospect High School and John Hersey High School retiring after 36 years of service.  He was voted “Outstanding Teacher” in the State of Illinois for his work in the vocational industrial areas.  Bill was also a member of the early Palatine Jaycees and was instrumental in helping with various Jaycee Projects, including the first Fourth of July Celebrations held in Palatine, including the fireworks.  Bill received “The Outstanding Jaycee Award” multiple times for his community work with the Jaycees.

Survived by his beloved wife of 64 years JoAnn B. (nee Barkley) Laymon; his loving children Jeffrey Randall, David Barkley (Keri) , Lezlie (Tim) Hill and Janette Laymon; cherished grandfather of Dawn Laymon, Heather Smith, Nathan and Olivia Hill; great grandfather of Desiree Lougheed, Gunner Smith, Louis Perez and Teddy Terrell; dear brother of Charles Allen, Leland Laverl (Mary) Laymon and the late Warren and late Richard Laymon, late Ruth Jones; also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
